I've been reading through the CR Mafia forum and some others...wow, the game looks cool...and somehow looks like a game I've played already, just not in the Internet...that's what's bugging me. The rules in that game can't be applied in an RP over the Net. They must have addapted...and I'm reading some rules, BUT I still didn't find the official rule place or something...only places where there are tips and making fun of rules.

I'll search harder, though.
This rule here was freaking epic, though:

8. DON'T UNDERESTIMATE NEW PEOPLE - It's generally a bad idea to underestimate anybody in general, but especially with new players. It's possible they'll be horrible at the game and just never figure out what to do. It's possible they'll have problems at first, but learn as they go along. It's also possible they may turn out to be so good, they could wipe out a mafia, make their own, beat the rest of the town, while proving the heterosexuality of Adrian Andrews and Miles Edgeworth.
Going along the same vein, don't overestimate someone either. Even the best players can have an off day, or just do something really friggin stupid.

I want hippie to tell exactly what this game is about...but...what I gathered so far...

There are three factions: the Townspeople, the Mafia, and the Wildcards. The game is basically a fight between the Mafia and the Townspeople.

Each player is assigned a random role...and inside each faction, there is some roles. E.g: the Mafia has a Godfather among its members, while the Townies have a Town Sentinel/Watcher or something...or I may be wrong about this one...

The Townies and the Mafia take turns each day to attack each other...Townies attack at day, Mafia attacks at night...but the thing is...nobody knows what role the other have. It's random. A Gamemaster takes care in dividing the roles. So the thing of the game is an exchange of PMs with each player...where you RP conversations with them and try to discover their faction through these conversations...and then, in the public thread...I don't know what you do there...because I don't know how you would RP in public without actually revealing your faction...

As you can see, I've only gathered a few...I want to hear something else from Hippie.

Okay, so basically, like Aluicon said, there's the Town and the Mafia. The Town needs to find the Mafia and lynch them during the day. If they eliminate them all, they win. The Mafia needs to stay undercover and get the Town to lynch itself and use their own personal kill during the night to outnumber the Town. The Mafia know everyone in the Mafia, but the Town only knows themselves. Everyone votes during the day to lynch someone, but only the Mafia vote at night (PMs to the GM) (hey that rhymes! [/off-topic]). And there are roles that can do things depending on what powers they have.
Third-factions are like an extra Mafia tacked on to the end. They need to kill both the Town and the Mafia to win. (And none in the history of CR have won. XD)
Wildcards need an affiliation request from a person in the faction that they want to join to join that faction. Until then they are by themselves.

That's really all of it. But definitely read Kuro's rules, they're funny!

Well, hippie...theorically, nothing that is rated 18+ has anything to do with hugs...and even so, we have Riu. So...I guess everything goes on T.H.U.G. XD

I didn't find the "How To", sorry...only some strategy rules and funny rules. That's why I speculated...
It sounds fun, doesn't it? We should give it a try...but we may need further explanation on the mechanics...

Hmmm my first round was one with just Mafia and Town, no roles or anything.
Do you think that would prepare everyone enough?

Speaking of them, could you explain exactly how are they determine and who can use them? I couldn't get it, from what I read...
But it appears that HP are something of a new rule...

Oh yaeh completely forgot about those. (I guess you saw Regy's Let's get rid of them now! thing...)

Some roles have special powers called Hidden Powers (HP). They are just a regular power that is hidden from everyone else in the game. Some of them you can use anytime, and others trigger on something. For example if so-and-so is killed then the person with it can use it. And usually there's a banner that get posted in the thread by the GM that's got the name of it and whatever.

Let's see if I can explain that better. Well in one game, I was Dahlia Hawthorn (epic fail though-got lynched) and I got to screw the votes the day after Iris died. So the day after she died I sent 5 names to the Gm and only those votes got counted. If that makes any more sense...

I guess it does, that's an example of HP...and one that looks somewhat powerful. I'm guessing that the GM has the final word if the HP is allowed to be used during the game or not. Oh well, since it is for roles, we won't be using them yet...
Well, hippie, one more thing. We are supposed to PM other people and talk to them in an attempt to guess if they work for the Mafia or not (in the case we are Townspeople). ...How exaclty does this conversation proceeds? Just like regular normal ones, in character (that would be, roleplaying while talking)? Just to be sure. And the Mafiosos know each other, and they have to work together to beat up all the towspeople...right? x_x

Man, I'm asking to much, but it is for the sake of clarifying for everyone here and see if we can go a round.

It's not really like an RP that much. If you do RP then everyone knows your role and if you're town it's like saying "Kill me Mafia!" and putting a target sign on your forehead. If you are in the Mafia, then it's the opposite ("Lynch me Town!" *target sign*) But I would have soe fun after the round or to fellow Mafiosos or whoever RPing as a character.
I alwasy just PM'd whoever's on saying "Hey how's it going for you?" or something to that effect. Then start talking about whatever concerning the round. It's best not to put all your suspicions on one person because they could be in the Mafia and mess with you somehow. I wouldn't accuse them on PM's just talk and see if they slip-up on something.
And spot-on with the Mafiosos thing!

Oh...somehow, I was under the impression that the Mafia would RP talk with the Townies, but disguised, as if they were Townies too...

You mean we just PM each other and ask how is the investigation going, or what does the person thinks about it? (There are insvestigations, I guess...).

Hum...I guess we would have to try it out to get completely... ^^

No, there's no difference between Townies and Mafiosos so even if you did do that the other side might find out.
I guess by investigation you mean the game in general.
(Investigations are given to detective roles, ex: Gumshoe can pick two people to be investigated at 85% accuracy or something to that affect.)

Yeah I would give it a few more days... Mafia's concept was confusing for me at first too. And we're the only people up.
And the poll is tied at yes and maybe so.
